Because of districting, voters will only be able to elect one council member from their district every four years. In the 2018 election, 60% of Dana Point’s voters can vote for city council. 40% of Dana Point voters are being denied the right to vote at all.
The council members elected will have the primary responsibility to represent their districts. Yet, their decisions will affect every Dana Point resident. And the voters who cannot vote in the district will never be able to hold those council members accountable. The voters who cannot vote in 2018 will only be able to vote for the candidates in their districts in 2 years.
